If you require smooth surfaces and fine details, 3D printing is yet another Rapid Prototyping method which creates parts in 0.0017"(0.043mm) layers, resulting in a superior surface finish on organic or curved shapes.  The "stair-stepping", common to other RP processes, is minimized on these parts which makes for easy finishing.
